On-Page SEO or On-Page optimization is one of the important elements in search engine optimization that is optimizing your particular page not complete website. On-page optimization commonly consists of your website’s meta data description or Meta tag, ALT in images, creating search engine friendly URLs, using keyword rich title etc.
Today In this article I’m going to write about few major points you should consider in on-page optimization.
1 – CONSIDER INCLUDING YOUR MAIN KEYWORD IN DOMAIN NAME
This part sometimes is difficult to practice, but if you managed to get keyword or key phrase in your domain name you will have better advantage in search engine results. If your targeted keyword of key phrase is already been taken you can go substitute keywords or being little creative to get the job done. You can use hyphen (-) among keywords to make your job easier. Search Engine’s never restricted anyone of punished anybody for having hyphens or dashes in the domain name.
2 – OPTIMIZING TITLE TAG WILL MAKE YOUR JOB HALF DONE
Optimizing title tag always comes first in on-page optimization. Keep your main targeted keywords in first if possible or at least as a second word. I noticed lot of newbie blogger use their blog name in home page’s title tag; to be honest I don’t recommend this to practice. I always suggest to use your main keywords for homepage title and lastly use your blog name. For example in my case I use

3 – OPTIMIZE PAGE DESCRIPTION TAG
Page description or Meta description is considered as important as title tag optimization. In a simple word I can say, a Description tag or Meta description is basically a description of a particular page which displays in SERPs. This tag gives search engine a brief description of a page and its content.
While creating description tags please make sure that you use no more than 160 characters and those 160 characters should reflect all your content on the page. As I mentioned above the description is pulled and visible in the search engine results page (SERPs) and will help your potential visitors to decide visit your site or not.
There is a link between search engine rankings and the keywords used inside your Meta Description, but its not as high as with page titles. So you can add your target keywords in the beginning of Meta Description.
4 – OPTIMIZING IMAGES WITH ALT TAGS
If you are using images on your articles, always use the ALT tag for image description and include a few keywords phrases without fail. This will highlight the subject of the website while search engine index your page.
5 – CONTENT AND HEADING OPTIMIZATION
In order to utilize your work in optimizing Title Tag Meta Tag Description tag, and Image Description, it’s important to mention your target keyword in your content and headings.
- Add as much as content you can. Search Engines love contents on the web page. Make sure to add minimum 330 to 360 words per article.
- Write content for humans not machines, I mean write for your readers not search engines. Search Engine should be always your second option.
- Maintain keyword density of 3-5% of your article total content. For example if you have 100 words make sure to use targeted keywords 3 – 5 times.
- Use H1 tag at least once in a page and use only once. Use your targeted keyword in H1 tag. There is a link between good rankings and use of target keywords in the H1 tags.
- Interlink your articles and pages. There are few nice SEO interlink plugins available if you are onWordPress platform. I’m using Insights WordPress plugin.
- Use H2, H3 and H4 tags where ever required. Use target keyword in those heading tags.
6 – USE KEYWORDS META TAG AND ROBOTS META TAG
Keywords Meta tags are no longer accepted by Google, but Yahoo still uses keyword Meta tag. This is because in black hat SEO spammers stuffing keywords in this area to get higher rank for those keywords. But I still believe that using Keywords Meta tag may help you to get rank in Yahoo! search results. Use limited keywords so that you are not considered as spammer.
Robot Meta tags are used to instruct search engine bots how to crawl your website’s certain parts or page. In default Robot Meta Tags used “index, follow”. But you can use the Robot Meta Tags to instruct the search engines to index or not to index, to follow or nofollow. Available Robots Meta Tag options are:” index, follow – index, nofollow – noindex, follow – noindex, nofollow”
7 – OPTIMIZE YOUR URL
As a final touch-up to your on page SEO plan you will need to ensure that your web page’s URL is completely optimized for search engines. Use target keywords in URL. If you use WordPress platform you can configure your permalinks.
Use above On-Page SEO tips to optimize your webpage for search engines. As I mentioned above your main target is your reader not search engines. Using these On-Page SEO tips your site clearly indicate search engines that what your site is about and its contents also makes easier them to crawl and index.
